Gay is a phenomenon which is often found in modern community. The problems that occur for gays are social and norms discrepancy with community as well as the presence of risky sexual behavior. This study aimed to identify the orientation of homosexual men (gay) based on the theory of the WHO. This research was conducted using case study
design with a qualitative approach. The population of this study was gay students and currently registered in X university, city of Surabaya. Subjects were obtained using snow ball. Interviews and observations conducted to obtain information concerning to the things that affect the subjects became a gay based on aspects of thoughts and feelings, personal reference, resources, culture, and family condition in 6 gay students. Based on the results of the study, it was shown that variables of thoughts and feelings and family conditions affect decision to become a gay. Variables of thoughts and feelings indicating that the backgrounds for being a gay were biological and environmental factors (boyfriend, another homosexual men). Family conditions was related to dissatisfaction with the subject of study in affective fulfillment. Variable of personal reference indicating idol life story was only motivation for subjects under study to be successful as the idol and did not affect the decision to be a gay, while variable of resources and culture had no impact on the decision to become a gay. It can be concluded that someone’s decision to be a gay is influenced by many factors.
