ABSTRACT
Geographically, Indonesia is an archipelago situated at a juncture of four tectonic plates, the Asian Plate, Australian Plate, plate Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. In the southern and eastern parts of Indonesia there is a belt of volcanic (volcanic arc) that extends from the island of Sumatra, Java – Nusa Tenggara and Sulawesi, the sides in the form of old volcanic mountains and lowlands are mostly dominated by swamps. The condition of potential and proneness to disasters such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and landslides. The data show that Indonesia is one of country that has a high level of seismicity in the world, more than 10 times the level of seismicity in the United States (Arnold, 1986). During a period of 5 years between 2010-2014 the number of disasters in Indonesia reached 1,907 catastrophic events, consisting of 1,124 natural disasters, 626 non-natural disasters and social disasters 157. While for 2014 the number of events as much as 456 disaster events, consisting of 227 natural disasters (49%), 197 non-natural disasters (44%) and social disaster 32 (7%). Catastrophic incident raises the number of casualties as much as 1,699,247 people, comprising of 957 victims died, 1,932 people were seriously injured / hospitalized, 694 305 people were slightly injured / outpatient, 391 people missing and 1,001,662 refugees. effort to mitigate in the face of threats of disaster. Through the empowerment of community capacity is a form of non-structural mitigation, the approach to the family confirmed they will be able to take a position and understanding in the face of disaster. So that ultimately the risk of disaster risk reduction will be successful. Through approach “create a model family duties” (Friedman 98) on disasters in each family is prone to; 1.To identify potential disasters that occurred in family members of the family, 2. To make the decision to take appropriate action if a disaster occurs for family members, 3.To care about sick family members, and that can not help themselves, 4.To defend the atmosphere in the house which allows protected from disasters including preparing a simple tool, 5.To maintain reciprocal relationship between the family and community disaster agencies, so the number of family disaster awareness will be achieved, autonomously to face of disaster.
