UNAIR NEWS – The Covid-19 pandemic has inspired many parties to make breakthroughs and innovations for handling and prevention. It is what Universitas Airlangga continues to do since the pandemic emerged.
On this regard, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Moh Nasih in front of the press on Monday, April 19, explained that from the start UNAIR has been comprehensively involved in it. It has been involved from the detection test to handling the bodies.
“Before the others discussed reagents, UNAIR first conducted a test process with PCR swabs. In fact, before other hospitals were involved in handling the pandemic crisis, RSUA was ready. It means that from the management side, UNAIR has always been ready from the start, “he explained.
Regarding the program, continued Prof. Nasih, UNAIR has produced many innovations either short term or long term. For short term, many academics of UNAIR develop products for immune enhancement and various innovations to control the pandemics.
“Moreover, drug combinations have also been produced which are widely used in various circles, including more than 80 hospitals belonging to the Army, “said Prof. Nasih.
Furthermore, Prof. Nasih also said that because the pandemic have lasted for more than a year old, long-term programs were also being optimized. One of them is the vaccine procurement program. In this case UNAIR as a research team does not stand alone. Many parties are involved such as the Ministry of Research and Technology / National Agency for Research and Innovation.
“From this program, it means that this vaccine is part of UNAIR’s long-term program commitment in handling Covid. The process was long, the road was winding, and methods are changed several times, ”he said.
At the end, Prof. Nasih said that of all these processes, the most important thing was that UNAIR would not go too far in the mass production process. UNAIR’s position is in the preparation process and everything is done properly with recommendations from BPOM.
“Regarding when the vaccine can be used, it is predicted that it will be around 10 to 11 months. As the preclinical stage is not a simple and short stage. So this process is still a long way to go so that the vaccine can really be effective. Please pray, be patient and hopefully Merah Putih vaccine can be immediately used by all parties, “he concluded.
